The original Land Cruiser was derived from the demand for a lightweight, highly effective military off-road vehicle. The J100 chassis, introduced in 1998, brought a new body style, independent front suspension, and a 4.7L V8 powerplant. These updates added additional on-road comfort and greater power output, yet retained that rugged and dependable characteristic carried over for generations.
