The 2020-2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 remains the most powerful street-legal road car Ford has ever produced. It redefined American muscle by delivering genuine supercar track performance, clocking a 0-60 mph sprint in 3.3 seconds and clearing the quarter-mile in a blistering 10.7 seconds.
At the heart of this machine is the hand-built "Predator" engine, a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 utilizing a traditional cross-plane crankshaft. This aluminum-alloy powerplant produces 760 horsepower at 7,300 rpm and 625 lb-ft of torque, aided by an inverted Eaton 2.65-liter Roots-type supercharger.
Power travels exclusively to the rear wheels via a Tremec seven-speed dual-clutch transmission capable of shifts in 80 milliseconds. A MagneRide damping system, massive Brembo brakes, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires allow this heavy chassis to corner with immense lateral grip.
With roughly 15,000 units produced, this model is highly prized by collectors today. It replaced the track-focused S550 GT350 and the older S197 GT500. Because no direct S650-generation replacement has succeeded it, this machine remains the ultimate modern performance benchmark for drivers.
