The 1991-1994 Nissan Sentra SE-R redefined the affordable sport compact, delivering giant-killing performance that drew instant comparisons to the BMW E30 M3. By blending a potent drivetrain with a lightweight, unassuming two-door body, it dominated SCCA showroom stock racing and created a cult following.

Power comes from the SR20DE engine. This all-aluminum, naturally aspirated 2.0-liter dual-overhead-cam inline-four produces 140 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 132 pound-feet of torque. Featuring a 7,500 rpm redline and sodium-filled valves, this powerplant is known for its durability and tuning potential.

The front-wheel-drive chassis utilizes MacPherson struts up front and a parallel-link strut setup at the rear. Power reaches the ground via a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission and a standard viscous limited-slip differential. This combination minimizes understeer, providing neutral handling.

Nissan produced roughly 30,000 units of the B13-generation SE-R. It succeeded the B12-generation Sentra SE and was later replaced by the B14-generation 200SX SE-R. Today, surviving, unmodified examples are highly prized by collectors who value this model as the high-water mark of Nissan's compact era.
