The 2022-2026 Subaru BRZ ZD8 secured its reputation by delivering an ultra-low center of gravity of just 18.0 inches, rivaling exotic supercars at a fraction of the price. This lightweight coupe dominated its class through pure mechanical connection, offering an unfiltered steering response and a highly balanced 53:47 front-to-rear weight distribution.
Under the aluminum hood lies the FA24D engine, a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated horizontally opposed four-cylinder. This power plant utilizes both direct and port fuel injection to produce 228 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 184 pound-feet of torque at 3,700 rpm. The torque curve is notably flatter than its predecessor, completely eliminating the infamous mid-range dip.
Built on a highly rigid evolution of the Subaru Global Platform, the ZD8 features a MacPherson strut front suspension and a double-wishbone rear setup. Power is routed to the rear wheels via a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission and a standard Torsen limited-slip differential. This configuration excels at lateral grip, predictable drift control, and corner exit traction.
Replacing the first-generation ZC6, the ZD8 is highly sought after by track-day enthusiasts and collectors as one of the last analog sports cars. While annual North American sales hover around 3,000 to 4,000 units, its long-term value is secured by its status as the pinnacle of the line, with no direct internal-combustion successor yet named to replace it.
