The 2017-2020 Ford F-150 Raptor redefined factory off-road performance by mastering high-speed desert endurance. It remains the absolute benchmark for production trophy trucks, engineered to jump dunes and traverse brutal terrain at highway speeds while retaining daily utility.
Power comes from a high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbocharged V6 engine, internally designated as the D35. This double-overhead-cam powerplant produces 450 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 510 pound-feet of torque at 3,500 rpm, delivering immediate low-end grunt and strong high-rpm pull.
The steel frame carries Fox Racing 3.0-inch Internal Bypass shocks, providing over 13 inches of front travel. A 10R80 ten-speed automatic transmission routes power through a torque-on-demand transfer case. This setup excels at absorbing massive off-road impacts while maintaining high-speed control.
Though not a limited-run special, this generation remains highly coveted, holding strong resale value among enthusiasts. It successfully replaced the original V8-powered first-generation Raptor and established the template for the third-generation coil-sprung model that succeeded it in 2021.
