The 2015-2020 Ford F-150 altered light-duty truck manufacturing as the first mass-production pickup to feature an all-aluminum body. By slashing curb weight by up to 700 pounds, this generation set new class benchmarks for payload capacity and fuel efficiency that competitors struggled to match.
Enthusiasts favor the second-generation EcoBoost 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine. Coding-designated as the D35, this dual-overhead-cam powerplant generates 375 horsepower and a robust 470 pound-feet of torque, offering V8-rivaling pulling power with a broader torque curve.
Underneath, a fully boxed high-strength steel frame pairs with a double-wishbone front suspension and solid rear axle. When mated to the co-developed 10-speed automatic transmission and electronic four-wheel drive, this chassis delivers a class-leading 13,200-pound maximum towing capacity.
With nearly five million units sold, this thirteenth-generation model replaced the steel-bodied twelfth generation and was succeeded by the fourteenth in 2021. Today, buyers seek these trucks on the used market for their rust-resistant aluminum bodies and highly durable drivetrains.
