The 2015-2019 Porsche 911 GT3 RS of the 991 generation redefined track performance by lapping the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a certified 6:56.4. It achieved this via extreme downforce and motorsport-derived grip, setting a new benchmark for naturally aspirated production road cars.

Power comes from the MA1.77 engine, a rear-mounted 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six. This powerplant produces up to 520 horsepower at 8,250 rpm and 346 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm, featuring a 9,000-rpm redline, direct fuel injection, and a rigid valve drive derived from the 911 GT3 R racer.

A seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission sends power to the rear wheels, supported by an electronically controlled rear differential lock. Rear-axle steering, stiff rose-jointed suspension links, and active dampers provide immense lateral stability, making the car exceptionally fast through high-speed sweeps.

Porsche produced roughly 9,300 units across both 991.1 and 991.2 generations. It remains highly coveted by drivers for its analog feel and hydraulic-like steering feedback. This model directly replaced the 997.2 GT3 RS and was subsequently succeeded by the even more aerodynamically extreme 992 GT3 RS.
