The 2009-2014 Audi TT RS 8J redefined compact sports car performance by packing junior-supercar acceleration into a daily-driveable package. It dominated its era by reviving Audi's rally-bred five-cylinder heritage, delivering a sub-four-second zero-to-sixty sprint that embarrassed far pricier machinery.
At the car's heart lies the CEPA engine, a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five. This heavy-duty iron-block powerplant produces 335 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque starting at just 1,600 rpm. Its unique 1-2-4-5-3 firing order yields a warbling, off-beat exhaust note reminiscent of classic rally racers.
Underneath, the hybrid Audi Space Frame chassis uses lightweight aluminum up front. Paired with Haldex-based quattro all-wheel drive, magnetic ride dampers, and a six-speed manual or seven-speed S-tronic, this setup grants the car immense mid-corner grip and relentless, all-weather traction.
With roughly 6,500 units produced globally, this model is highly prized by collectors, especially manual-equipped examples. As the inaugural TT RS, it crowned the second-generation lineup—effectively replacing the TTS as the performance flagship—before the 8S generation succeeded it in 2016.
