The 2007-2010 Honda Civic Type R FD2 redefined front-wheel-drive performance by lapping the Suzuka Circuit faster than the mid-engine NSX Type S of the previous decade. Built exclusively for the Japanese domestic market, this four-door sedan achieved an uncompromising track-ready focus that humiliated far more expensive sports cars on tight circuits.

At the heart of the sedan is the naturally aspirated K20A 2.0-liter dual-overhead-cam inline-four engine. This high-revving powerplant produces 222 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 159 pound-feet of torque at 6,100 rpm. Utilizing Honda's i-VTEC variable valve timing, it delivers a linear powerband that screams all the way to an electronically limited 8,600 rpm redline.

Power reaches the front wheels through a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission and a helical limited-slip differential. To maximize cornering grip, Honda increased chassis rigidity by 50 percent over the standard sedan and fitted a stiff, track-tuned independent suspension. This setup virtually eliminates understeer, offering razor-sharp turn-in and immense high-speed stability.

With approximately 14,000 units produced, the FD2 is highly prized by collectors as the final naturally aspirated four-door Type R. It succeeded the EP3 hatchback in the Japanese market and was eventually replaced by the turbocharged FK2 generation. Today, it stands as a high-water mark for analog driver engagement, commanding premium prices on the global import market.
