The 2006-2012 Porsche 911 GT3 RS redefined the street-legal track car, setting a benchmark for pure analog driver engagement. Built to homologate Porsche's GT3 cup racers, it delivered unprecedented steering precision and high-rpm throttle response that dominated contemporary track tests.
Power comes from the motorsport-derived Mezger flat-six engine. The 3.6-liter M97.76 unit in the first-generation cars generates 415 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Later 3.8-liter M97.77 variants elevated output to 450 horsepower, revving to an extraordinary 8,500 rpm redline.
Power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels via a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission. The chassis features a 44-millimeter wider rear track than the standard Carrera, paired with adjustable PASM dampers. This setup maximizes mechanical grip and high-speed stability through corners.
Porsche built 1,168 units of the 3.6-liter model and 1,500 of the 3.8-liter version. Replacing the 996 GT3 RS and succeeded by the PDK-only 991, this generation is coveted by drivers as the final manual-transmission RS. It remains a blue-chip collectible for its unfiltered mechanical connection.
