The 2005-2010 BMW M5 E60 redefined the super-sedan by bringing Formula One technology to a four-door chassis. It was the world’s first production sedan powered by a high-revving V10 engine, enabling a delimited top speed of 205 mph and setting a new benchmark for high-speed executive transport.

At its heart lies the S85B50 engine, a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V10 that revs to 8,250 rpm. This power unit produces 500 horsepower at 7,750 rpm and 384 lb-ft of torque at 6,100 rpm. It features individual throttle bodies, a 12.0:1 compression ratio, and a quasi-dry-sump lubrication system.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed SMG III single-clutch automated manual transmission. Underneath, an aluminum-intensive suspension works with Electronic Damper Control and a variable differential lock, optimizing high-speed stability and cornering grip on challenging circuits.

BMW built 20,548 units of this generation, which replaced the V8-powered E39 and was succeeded by the twin-turbocharged F10. Today, it is highly sought after by collectors as the only V10-powered M5 ever made, cementing its position as a high-water mark for naturally aspirated performance.
