The 1998 Subaru Impreza 22B STi is a limited-edition, widebody road car built to celebrate the brand's third consecutive WRC manufacturers' title and 40th anniversary. Produced exclusively in 1998, this homologation-style special was based on the first-generation GC8 chassis. It succeeded the WRX STi Type R coupe and preceded the subsequent S-series performance models.

Power comes from the EJ22G engine, a closed-deck 2.2-liter turbocharged boxer four-cylinder. This powerplant features a unique 2,212 cc displacement, forged pistons, and a larger turbocharger. Officially rated under the Japanese gentlemen's agreement, it generates 276 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 268 pound-feet of torque at 3,200 rpm, delivered via a redline of 7,900 rpm.
