The 1998-2002 BMW Z3 M Coupe redefined sports car design by multiplying the roadster’s torsional rigidity by a factor of 2.7. This radical shooting-brake styling created an ultra-stiff platform that eliminated chassis flex, delivering unmatched mid-corner stability and razor-sharp steering feedback.

Later models feature the S54 powerplant, a 3.2-liter naturally aspirated inline-six engine. This high-revving unit utilizes individual throttle bodies to produce 315 horsepower at 7,400 rpm and 251 pound-feet of torque, delivering linear power all the way to its 7,600 rpm redline.

Power travels through a ZF five-speed manual transmission to a mechanical limited-slip differential. Up front, MacPherson struts handle steering, while the rear uses a semi-trailing arm suspension. This analog, rear-drive layout rewards skilled drivers with highly adjustable, throttle-steered cornering.

With just 6,291 units produced globally, this rare shooting brake has become a highly prized collector car. It established a new cult segment for the brand, entering the market with no direct predecessor, and was eventually succeeded by the more conventional Z4 M Coupe in 2006.
