The 1994-1996 Chevrolet Impala SS redefined the American sport sedan by merging full-size utility with sinister muscle-car presence. It dominated its era as the ultimate high-performance highway cruiser, proving that a spacious, body-on-frame four-door could handle and run with contemporary sports cars.

Under the hood sits the LT1 engine, a 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V8. Equipped with cast-iron cylinder heads, this iron-block powerplant produces 260 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 330 pound-feet of torque at 2,400 rpm. This setup yields excellent low-end torque, ideal for effortless high-speed passing.

Utilizing the body-on-frame B-body chassis, the SS employs a heavy-duty suspension adapted from the Caprice police package. A 4L60-E four-speed automatic transmission sends power to a limited-slip rear differential. This rear-wheel-drive setup delivers flat cornering and high-speed stability.

Chevrolet built 69,768 units over three years, making it a highly sought-after modern classic today. This generation revived a nameplate dormant since 1969, replacing the Caprice as Chevy's rear-drive performance flagship, before a front-wheel-drive V6 platform replaced it in 2004.
