The 1993-1997 Ford Ranger Splash defined the nineties sport truck, pioneering the factory-custom look with its distinct fiberglass flareside bed. It dominated the compact segment by combining a lowered ride height with monochromatic styling, creating a highly desirable street-truck aesthetic.

Under the hood, the range-topping engine was the 4.0-liter Cologne V6. This overhead-valve powerplant produced 160 horsepower at 4,200 rpm and a robust 225 pound-feet of torque at 2,500 rpm. It delivered strong low-end grunt, making the lightweight pickup surprisingly quick off the line.

The 4x2 model sat one inch lower in the front and two inches lower in the rear than standard Rangers. It utilized a Twin-I-Beam front suspension, a solid rear axle, and a standard five-speed manual transmission. This setup gave the truck car-like handling stability and sharp cornering agility.

Though production numbers were high, clean survivors are rare today, making them highly sought-after modern classics. The Splash effectively succeeded the earlier Ranger GT and was eventually replaced by the Ranger Edge. It remains a coveted milestone for sport-truck collectors.
