The 1992-1996 Ford Bronco XLT dominated the full-size SUV market by blending rugged off-road utility with daily-driver comfort better than any competitor of its era. It offered unmatched cabin space and towing capacity, establishing the benchmark for the modern, go-anywhere family adventure vehicle.
Under the hood, the top-tier 5.8-liter Windsor V8 engine, coded as the 351W, delivered reliable pushrod performance. This naturally aspirated overhead-valve powerplant produced 210 horsepower and a robust 325 pound-feet of torque, making it highly capable for heavy hauling and highway passing.
Built on a rugged body-on-frame platform, it paired a Twin Traction Beam independent front suspension with a solid rear axle. Power routed through an E4OD four-speed automatic transmission to a shift-on-the-fly four-wheel-drive system, giving it exceptional high-speed stability on rough terrain.
Ford produced over 160,000 units of this generation, which replaced the fourth-gen model before the four-door Expedition succeeded it in 1997. Today, clean XLT survivors command premium collector prices as enthusiasts seek out the final, highly refined iteration of this classic two-door SUV.
