The 1991 GMC Syclone redefined performance by out-accelerating contemporary sports cars, including the Ferrari 348TS, in magazine tests. Produced only for 1991, this compact pickup achieved a 0-60 mph time of 4.3 seconds, making it the quickest production truck of its era.

Under the hood sits a highly modified LB4 4.3-liter turbocharged V6 engine. Utilizing a Mitsubishi TD06-17C turbocharger and a Garrett water-to-air intercooler, this power plant produces 280 horsepower at 4,400 rpm and 350 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm, managed by upgraded pistons and manifolds.

Power is routed through a 4L60 four-speed automatic transmission to a BorgWarner all-wheel-drive system, which splits torque 35 percent front and 65 percent rear. Combined with a lowered, sport-tuned suspension and self-leveling rear air shocks, this setup delivers immense off-the-line traction.

GMC built just 2,995 Syclones for 1991. Highly prized by modern collectors, the truck succeeded the standard Sonoma pickup platform and paved the way for the 1992 GMC Typhoon SUV. Today, well-preserved examples command premium prices, cementing its position in sport-truck history.
