The 1988-1991 Honda CRX Si redefined the front-wheel-drive sports compact, dominating SCCA autocross Solo II competition for over a decade. Weighing under 2,200 pounds, it delivered a pure, unassisted steering response and cornering agility that embarrassed contemporary sports cars costing thrice as much.

Power comes from the D16A6 engine, a naturally aspirated 1.6-liter SOHC 16-valve inline-four. Featuring Honda's multi-point programmed fuel injection, this rev-happy powerplant generates 108 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 100 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm, sending drive directly to the front wheels.

Underneath lies a sophisticated four-wheel double-wishbone suspension, rare for compacts of this era. Paired with a five-speed manual transmission, quick-ratio steering, and four-wheel disc brakes, this layout keeps the chassis incredibly flat, maximizing mechanical grip through tight bends.

Today, unmolested examples of this generation are highly sought after by collectors, commanding premium prices. The 1988-1991 Si represents the peak of the CRX lineage, replacing the torsion-bar first-generation model before being succeeded by the heavier, targa-topped Civic del Sol in 1992.
