1985-1990 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z Cotton T-Shirt

The 1985-1990 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z redefined American performance by bringing road-racing handling to the street. Engineered for the International Race of Champions, it pulled an unprecedented 0.92g on the skidpad, out-cornering contemporary European sports cars at a fraction of the cost.

Under the hood, the ultimate factory engine option was the L98, a 5.7-liter Tuned Port Injection V8. This naturally aspirated overhead-valve layout produced 230 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque in 1987, eventually rising to 245 horsepower and 345 pound-feet of torque by 1990.

To maximize grip, the chassis featured a lowered ride height, stiffer springs, and specially valved Bilstein shocks. A four-speed automatic transmission sent power to a limited-slip rear axle. This setup, riding on 16-inch aluminum wheels, made the car exceptionally stable during high-speed cornering.

Chevrolet built over 180,000 IROC-Zs, making it a defining vehicle of its era. Today, clean, unmodified examples are highly prized by collectors. Introduced as an option package that superseded the standard Z28, the IROC-Z was itself replaced by the returning Z28 moniker for the 1991 model year.
