The 1970-1981 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 established a new benchmark for American pony car handling, trading straight-line drag strip dominance for sophisticated road-course dynamics. Its low-slung, European-inspired fastback design delivered high-speed stability that outclassed its domestic rivals.

At its peak, the Z28 relied on the solid-lifter LT-1, a 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) small-block V8. This high-revving powerplant featured an 11.0:1 compression ratio, a Holley four-barrel carburetor, and a mechanical lifter camshaft, producing 360 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 380 lb-ft of torque.

Built on GM's F-body chassis, the Z28 utilized a front independent suspension with thick anti-roll bars and rear leaf springs. Power reached the rear wheels via a Muncie M21 four-speed manual transmission and a Positraction differential, a setup engineered for flat, neutral cornering.

Chevrolet produced over 280,000 second-generation Z28s. Today, collectors value these cars as rewarding, accessible vintage drivers. This iteration replaced the high-revving 1967-1969 first-generation Z28 and was succeeded by the completely redesigned third-generation model for 1982.
