The 1970-1973 Datsun 240Z redefined the sports car market by delivering reliable, high-performance capability at a fraction of the cost of its European rivals. It quickly dominated SCCA C-Production racing, proving that a budget-friendly coupe could outclass established, expensive machinery on the track.

Under the long hood lies the L24 engine, a 2.4-liter SOHC inline-six featuring an iron block and aluminum head. Fed by twin Hitachi SU-type carburetors, this smooth powerplant produces 151 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 146 lb-ft of torque, delivering a highly responsive, linear power band.

Its steel monocoque chassis features four-wheel independent suspension, utilizing MacPherson struts up front and Chapman struts at the rear. Power goes to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox. This balanced, lightweight layout ensures precise handling and excellent cornering stability.

With over 168,000 units produced globally, the 240Z is highly prized by collectors today for its pure driving dynamics. It succeeded the open-top Datsun 2000 Roadster, establishing Nissan's Z-car legacy before the larger-displacement, emissions-regulated 260Z took over for the 1974 model year.
