The 1968-1972 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C3 set the American standard for high-velocity road holding and raw acceleration. Its wind-tunnel-tested Coke-bottle shape minimized high-speed lift, making it the dominant domestic sports car capable of exceeding 150 mph straight from the showroom floor.

The potent L71 engine option featured a 427-cubic-inch displacement in a ninety-degree V8 layout with an 11.0:1 compression ratio. This overhead-valve powerplant utilized three two-barrel Holley carburetors to generate 435 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm.

The chassis utilized a steel perimeter frame paired with an independent SLA front suspension and a rear setup featuring a transverse leaf spring. Power reached the rear wheels via a Muncie four-speed manual, a setup engineered for neutral cornering balance and high-speed stability.

Chevrolet produced 133,446 units of this chrome-bumper run. Today, they are highly sought after by collectors as the high-water mark of pre-emissions Corvette performance. This generation replaced the second-generation C2 and was eventually succeeded by the fourth-generation C4 Corvette in 1984.
