The 1963-1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray C2 established American sports cars on the global stage by delivering world-class, race-proven aerodynamics and independent rear suspension. It offered sub-six-second zero-to-sixty acceleration at a fraction of the cost of its contemporary European rivals.

Engine options peaked with the L71, a 427-cubic-inch (7.0-liter) big-block V8. Featuring triple two-barrel Holley carburetors, this overhead-valve powerplant produced 435 horsepower at 5,800 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 4,000 rpm, propelling the fiberglass-bodied car to a 152-mph top speed.

Underneath, a redesigned ladder frame paired with a new independent rear suspension featuring a transverse leaf spring significantly improved lateral grip. Power reached the rear wheels via a Muncie four-speed manual transmission, providing balanced, predictable handling on challenging road courses.

Chevrolet produced 117,964 units of this generation, which replaced the solid-axle C1 and was succeeded by the C3 in 1968. Today, collectors prize these cars for their historical significance and mechanical purity, with well-documented split-window and big-block models commanding top-tier prices.
